About North Shore Doula Care
Hello and congratulations on your pregnancy! Thank you for your interest in North Shore Doula Care. My name is Nicole Cison, owner and doula. I have been proudly serving the North Shore (and previously Chicago) as a birth and postpartum doula for nearly 14 years. I am DONA and MaternityWise trained and have extensive experience in birth, postpartum and breastfeeding care. My personal approach focuses on holistic doula care, but my background has served many varied circumstances and situations. I am open to accepting all birthing options and parenting styles. My goal is to assist each family in navigating their own personal birthing goals in a supportive, nurturing, non-judgmental environment. As many of my clients can attest, I have a personal style that is best described as; patient, calm, accepting, lighthearted and informative. In addition to my experience, I take an active interest in educating myself on current literature such as: vaccine safety, prenatal health and nutrition, postpartum depression and the physiology of labor and the newborn. I am also the mother of two beautiful girls and wife to my husband of 11 years. My other interests include photography, running, painting, reading and gardening.
I became a doula after I had the wonderful experience of having a doula for my VERY long, 48 hour unmedicated labor of my oldest child. It was challenging, but nearly impossible without the constant support of her and my husband. Gratefully, I had the pleasure of having a 4 hour water birth with my second child at home with a midwife. My maternity care and labors were vastly different, but gave me the advantage of learning much about myself and the very different experiences you can have with every birth.
I was drawn to pregnancy and babies as a child and after having a doula I knew this was exactly what I wanted to do. It has been an amazing “career” and I feel very blessed that this is my calling. As a doula, my experience has taught me that mothers (and fathers/partners) not only need physical support, but emotional as well. I invite my clients to be gentle with themselves, take their time building parenting skills, relax in the process and enjoy the early months of their newborn’s life.
Thank you for considering North Shore Doula Care for your birth and postpartum needs. I look forward to meeting with you and your family!
